The Nastiest Taste You’ve Ever Had

Many vapers may have probably experienced this unpleasant sensation, known as a dry hit. Some vapers may already have a solution to this problem.

A dry hit occurs when the wick material of the coil in the vape is not saturated with enough liquid. There can be many reasons for this, and while vaping, a dry hit is one of the first things you need to know about. When severe, it can blast the back of your throat with high heat and an unpleasant taste, which can also make you cough. Another thing is that if you are not careful, too many dry hits can damage your vaping device and overall experience.

Avoiding Dry Hits When Vaping

After a busy day, you are all set to relax with your e-cig pen filled with your favourite juice, and then suddenly, your throat takes a nasty surprise! A “dry hit” hits you. Is there any way you can avoid this? Yes, rest assured, there are a few things you can do:

Keep the wick saturated

This is the first and most important thing to make sure of. The vape coils must be saturated with the enough liquid. A dry or unsaturated wick is the most common cause of a dry hit. It is not just a question of waiting for a minute after adding the liquid. What you need to do, more importantly, is to use the correct type of coils that are compatible with your vape device. Keep extra coils and rotate them in usage.

You can also try using a device with a bottom coil tank, as the wick will remain saturated. Additionally, remember to always prime your coil properly before use.

Frequent vaping

If you vape continuously for a long time or frequently without bothering to refill, you may end up with a dry hit. If you are watching a movie, working on the computer, or just spending time with friends, it is easy to lose track of time and vape without pause. Chain vaping may cause the wick to dry out and become overheated. Try to be aware of your vaping habits.

Outdated or damaged vaping device

If you get a lot of dry hits and cannot seem to find the reason, it could be time to throw out your outdated device. Choose a good-quality vape device. Don’t hesitate to ask for help and do your research well, because there are many products on the market to choose from. Some devices have the feature to change the temperature and voltage, decreasing dry hit chances.

The wrong ratio in the vape juice

The two main ingredients in the e-liquid are propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG). VG is thicker and has a smoother hit and produces more clouds, while PG produces less clouds but provides a stronger, flavour-packed taste, with a more intense throat-hit. The VG takes longer to saturate the coil and could cause a dry hit. So, just change the ratio and increase the PG in the e-liquid to see a reduction.

Flavour is too sweet

Certain flavours such as those from premium brands have sweeteners in them, which can cause dry hits as the sweeteners don’t soak into the cotton properly. Try to stick to none sweetened or less sweetened flavours. Sweeter e-liquids can also cause faster coil wear.

What Should You Do When You Get a Dry Hit?

As soon as you get a dry hit, the first thing that you should do is stop vaping for a few minutes. If you continue to vape even after dry hits, the surface of the coil will completely run out of e-liquid and become dryer, which can cause a hot hit that tastes absolutely disgusting.

Stop as soon as you get the first dry hit and then check and refill the tank, if that is the problem. Give some time for the wick to get saturated fully, let the coil prime, before you start vaping again.

Conclusion

Some of these recommendations can save you from getting a dry hit, but one thing that is always helpful is turning off the device for a while. After all, the device also needs to rest at times.

Remember to top off your vape tank, and don’t let the juice level remain too low. Always be mindful.

We’d like to mention that our wholesale e-liquid are totally bespoke, so you can choose the PG/VG level to ensure the liquid is compatible with your tank and device, which further reduces the chances of dry hits.
